Fernando Ramirez

San Marcos Middle School
Assistant Principal
Fernando Ramirez believes mentors are important and does not think anybody makes it in the world without some form of mentorship. Nobody makes it alone. Nobody has made it alone. Everyone is a mentor to someone, even if they are not aware of it.

Fernando’s personal experiences as an “at-risk” youth and navigating the educational system has allowed him to take action in supporting many of the challenges and struggles that students of color face at his school. But at the age of 11, Fernando was matched up with a mentor (A Navy Sailor) that would change the trajectory of his life. The power of mentorship provided a pathway to experiences and opportunities that may have never been seen as an option to him.

For the last 15 years, Fernando Ramirez has served as an educator in the roles of teacher, coach and Assistant Principal in both Riverside and San Diego Counties. He graduated from UC Riverside with a Degree in History and Ethnic Studies. Currently, Fernando is the Assistant Principal at San Marcos Middle School located in San Marcos, CA. Five years ago the San Marcos Middle School Mentor program was born. With the focus being on supporting at promise youth, by honoring each of their own individual experiences and life stories. While building meaningful relationships, and helping students’ feel connected to the educational system. By providing the students with the right academic, social/emotional support, and a sense of belonging. Students are able to succeed and reach their full potential.
