Participants will engage in opening activities that focus on SEL competencies that highlight strategies for connecting the cultural capital that all families bring. Connections will be made to valuing parent voice in order to build equitable and culturally responsive Family Engagement Practices. Research will be presented on the under-representation of minority families in school activities and a video will be shared that demonstrates parent voice and the need for engaging families and the community in authentic ways.The Toolkit for Family Engagement (CDE), SEL Competencies,  and the Dual Capacity Framework will be examined as strategies to build authentic relationships and collaboration with all stakeholders.
