Learners will examine oracy as the gateway to literacy, defining oral skills as a critical part to literacy learning. “Readers with poor listening comprehension skills are likely to have poor reading comprehension” (Garcia and Cane 2014). Teachers must be proactive in creating opportunities for structured academic discourse. In this session, participants will both learn as students and reflect as educators.
