No BS (Bad Stats): Using Data for Equity in the Post-reform Era of Education

Dr. Ivory A. Toldson can trace his lineage back to two men who were born slaves and died Civil War veterans and his future to a data revolution in education. In 2020, people created 2.5 quintillion data bytes daily; producing more data in 2 years than all data ever produced before 2010. Yet, the information we use to understand our children consist of a narrow set of data points (e.g., standardized test scores and GPAs) and biases from constant exposure to BS (Bad Stats). In a post-reform era, we are experiencing unprecedented demographic changes, heightened levels of social awareness, and technological advancements. In his keynote speech, Dr. Toldson will critique antiquated and ineffective educational policies and practices, and promote equity, belonging and justice in education by using good data, thoughtful analysis, and a compassionate understanding.
